7 Reasons Why WordPress is the Best Blog Site (and How To Start a Blog)

With WordPress, you can run a successful blog about Fashion, Education, Social Media, Finance, Fitness and more. You can rank well in Google and earn monthly income from Adsense with no knowledge of code, or learn some for fun.

Choosing the best blog site (where you’ll go to start a blog) when planning your new blog site (your new blog) can be a lengthily process.

For most of us, we don’t want to have to move our work later on or be restricted in any way.

Thankfully in the web 3.0 world of 2017 there is one platform that stands out for being the easiest, most profitable with unlimited freedom to blog among all the best blog sites: WordPress.org

Yes, we said easiest! This guide will actually prove to you that to create a blog and understand how to blog it is actually very easy AND that you can do all this with the same software used by the most famous blogs and bloggers on the web.

Checkout the below reasons why WordPress is actually the best of all the blogging sites, then see our HOW TO MAKE A BLOG video below that’s already helped over 1,000 new bloggers build a blog with confidence!

What is WordPress, why is it the best blog site?

[make a gif here]

When I started my blogging journey in 2010 there we a lot of good places to start a blog. Among them were two softwares called WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

1. WordPress.com is the free version of WordPress. It’s really fun and I used it for 2 weeks back in 2010 before switching to WordPress.org because I couldn’t post ads or videos or try editing code.
2. WordPress.org is the complete version of WordPress. You can rank #1 in Google, post ads, images, videos, crazy designs, use thousands of free themes and you don’t need to know code to blog.

what can you do with wordpress?

best blogging site (replace best, use that typing plugin).

Now I know what you’re thinking. I’ll just try the basic version and upgrade later if I want to. As someone who usually gets the free trial version (think Spotify, gym memberships, etc), WordPress.org is one of those things that it’s best to just get upfront and move on with. That’s because if you blog on WordPress.com and decide to switch later, you must transfer all your posts, which is a headache because things can get lost or totally altered.

About 10 years ago, using WordPress.org meant some complicated installation stuff.

Not anymore – to setup a WordPress.org (WordPress for short) just like installing a new application like Word or Powerpoint for your computer.

1. We live in an era of WordPress

And because of that, it’s really easy to get started!

In fact, making your first WordPress blog boils down to 3-step process shown in the popout images below.

  1. Pick out a hosting plan (I particularly like the Hatchling plan at Hostgator because it’s the best deal I’ve found, they give you a custom email, $100 Adwords credit, etc)
  2. Choose the perfect domain name
  3. Finally, you install WordPress.org with 1-click (for free)

Total cost: $3/month!

Note: The previous cost of hosting for all of us was $5/month. This new offer was given specifically to us at Dear Blogger because we’re a very good looking bunch 😉 We’ve also worked with HostGator for years. This blog may earn a commission if you sign up through our links. We use WordPress and HostGator on all our blogs and are here to help no matter what you choose to do! Using our links does guarantee you the best possible deal though so make sure to use them if you do sign up!

If you can’t afford this or are on a super tight budget, think of this like one coffee or lunch out you make at home instead each month. If that’s still too much for you, then opt for a WordPress.com blog because you’ll at least get used to some of the best blogging software on the planet, and it’s better than nothing!

2. WordPress blogs rank ridiculously well in Google

Free WordPress “plugins” like Yoast, which this blog uses to help our SEO, make it easy to rank in Google.

Let’s look at a Google Search for “fashion blogs” to see how many times WordPress shows up. Then let’s do the same for “finance blogs”.

Sure there are TONS of fashion and fitness blogs out there. But the fact that Google returns a lot of WP sites on the 1st page means something: they get heaps of traffic. These sites probably rank for more phrases than just “fashion blogs” or “fitness blogs” too, yielding a healthy daily stream of readers for the respective bloggers behind each WordPress site.

By contrast, there is a steep disadvantage in Search rankings for sites who do not use WordPress.

WordPress blogs bank Adsense earnings

Because of #2 (better Google rankings) WordPress blogs get a disproportionate amount of traffic. When you have traffic, you can do anything you want with it. One of the most convenient methods to monetize traffic is to hook up your WordPress blog with Google Adsense and earning revenue based on views and clicks on your ads.
